Vaulted Roots — Build Your Family Tree

Your Data. Your Device.

How Vaulted Roots protects your family history

📱

Stays on your device

Everything is saved locally in your browser. No servers, no cloud, no accounts.

🔐

Nothing for us to read

Your tree is never sent to us, so there's no copy on our side to read, sell or leak. Lock your device to keep it private there too.

🚫

No ads, no tree data

We count visits with Umami (no cookies) and Google Analytics. Google Analytics uses a cookie to spot returning visitors; in Europe only if you tap Allow. Never ads, never anything from your tree.

📤

You control sharing

Export your tree as a file to share with family. Only send it to people you trust.

🗑️

Delete anytime

Clear your browser data and your tree is gone forever. No backups on our end.

About Vaulted Roots

Your legacy. Secure.

Who's behind it

Vaulted Roots is a project by a retired Canadian individual who is a hobby developer. It is built for the love of it: a clean, distraction-free way for families to record their lineage without paywalls or data harvesting.

Your privacy

Your tree never leaves your device. Everything lives in your own browser's storage on your own computer or phone. There are no servers holding your data, no accounts, no logins. The only files that move are the ones you export yourself (GEDCOM or backup) and choose to share.

No data selling. Ever. Your family information is never sold, shared, or used to train AI.

One exception, only if you use it: certificate scanning sends that one certificate image to our transcription service, which passes it to Venice AI to read the text. None of your tree goes with it. If you'd rather not, type the details in yourself.

One honest footnote: visit counting. We count page visits two ways. Umami counts visits without cookies (and skips browsers set to Do Not Track). Google Analytics uses a cookie to tell new visitors from returning ones; in the EEA, UK and Switzerland it only sets that cookie if you tap Allow, and otherwise sends cookieless pings. Neither is ever used for ads, and neither receives your name or anything from your tree. Apart from a certificate you choose to scan, that's the only signal that leaves your browser.
